Cats with Special Needs
Smidge
Date of Birth: 04/09/2014
Sex: Male
Color: Gray Tiger/Tabby
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • Special Need: Chronic Congestion

My story: I'm a tiny little guy. When I ended up at a shelter as a newborn, I was really sick. My foster mom from St. Francis took me home and nursed me back to health. Sadly, my brother didn't make it. I was so sick that I had to be tube fed for a while because I was too weak to eat. Because of that, I didn't grow very fast. I still have a problem with my sinuses and maybe always will. I often have to take antibiotics for my runny nose and watery eye. My foster mom says she can always find me by just listening for my breathing! But even though I'm a noisy breather, I can do anything my foster siblings can do! I run, climb and love to chase a laser light. I'm not a very brave guy and often hide under the furniture. Most of the time, you won't even know I'm there. (Smidge also has chronic urinary track infections and takes a daily medication that he will need for the rest of his life.)

Peggy

Sex: Female
Color: Black & White
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Fur: Short
  • Special Need: Special Diet

My story: Hi my name is Peggy. I've had a very rough start to life and I am so ready for my happy ending. When my owners moved they tossed me outside where I was having litter after litter of kittens. Finally someone brought me inside but as soon as I went into labor they said I had to be out now. So I gave birth to five beautiful babies in the car on the way to my foster home. When my babies were a few days old I was also asked to take on some premature orphans, how could I say no? So I raised those too. Now it's my turn to get my happy ending (a forever home!). I'm a very sweet and laid back cat. I enjoy Lounging in sun spots, eating, sleeping, getting pet, and playing. Do you like those things too? If so it sounds like we're a purrfect match! I hope to meet you soon! Peggy will require a special diet. She has Mega Colon, as long as she eats her special food it isn't an issue. Love and purrs, Peggy

Teddy
Date of Birth: 08/07/2011
Sex: Male
Color: Brown Tiger/Tabby
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • Special Need: FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)

My story: Teddy is a lover, not a fighter- and he has the scars to prove it! This sweet boy was dumped into a feral colony. He did okay there for several years. He made friends (and loved all the yummy treats employees brought him!) and earned his name due to his cuddly Teddy bear nature. He is very loved by his former caretakers, but it is time for Teddy to leave behind life in a parking lot and spend his golden years living the good life inside. We don't know what happened, but Teddy was found one morning with serious trauma to his face. His left eye had been punctured and he lost several teeth on that side. Our vet was able to save his eye- but it is non-visual. Teddy has been an amazing patient. This gentle soul just wants to curl up in your lap. Teddy is all healed up- and as you can see, he is still so handsome. His life on the outside has also left him FIV +. Teddy can live a long, healthy life with FIV. He has healed wonderfully from his accident and he is ready for his forever home!

Sex: Female
Color: Black & White
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • Special Need: Eye Issue

My story: Hi I am Frankie. Boy I like to have a good time. I love to play and wrestle and I love to be loved. I always want to be where the action is and am curious about everything. I came in with another kitten a little younger than me, and we were happy to be rescued. I am a hefty and healthy girl. Not a skinny mini and will be a big cat. I like to sleep with my people and cuddle with you. I need to tell you that I do have an issue with my eyes. I have a condition where the Cornea sticks to the inner lid. I do have some sight and I am sensitive to light, but may go blind in the future. Right now I am fine though and have been released for adoption. I am going to need a home where there is not too much chaos. I do get along with the dogs and kitties in the house, but will need a long term home, where I am safe from a dominant cat or dog with my limited sight. I hope you will consider me as I am ready for a lifetime of love with a special family. Love and Kisses, Frankie XOXOXO

  • Special Need: Skin Allergies

My story: Hi! I'm Joy! I'm the sweetest baby kitty there is! If you are looking for a 24/7 lovebug who wants to snuggle up in your lap- that's me! St. Francis came to my rescue right before Christmas. I was surrendered to the county shelter extremely malnourished and bald! And I had a nasty cold! It has taken some time to get me healthy- I will always be tiny- but I've put on weight- and I have beeyootiful fur. The vet thinks I am a 'allergy' kitty. I will need monthly flea meds. And sometimes pollen causes my allergies to flare up- but my foster mommy says that's pretty normal around here! I am a high energy girl so I will do best in a home where I can have some fun friends to play with- I can be a little shy at first (change is scary!)- but I am a wonderful girl. Don't I sound purrfect? I can't wait to meet you!

Sex: Male
Color: Brown Tiger/Tabby
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • Special Need: Heart Murmur

My story: Ahoy mates! My name is Captain Jack Sparrow! I am a 2y old neutered male. I was out on a long adventure looking for Poseidon's Triton & I decided to take a rest; so I walked into my now foster families garage. The door was wide open! To my surprise, someone was in there under the car working on it! How wonderful because I am a very very sweet boy who absolutely loves attention & loves to talk! They were so wonderful that I decided to stay and abandon my adventures to look for my furever home. They were exhausting anyways & there probably is no treasure (and battling that Kraken was very difficult)! I use the litter box with no issues & love to play with toys. My foster mommy tells me I have a heart murmur and would do best in a quieter home setting but my heart feels fine! I am ready to give my new furever family all the love in the world. Will you be my treasured family?

Sex: Male
Color: White & Gray
Breed: American Mediumhair
Fur: Medium
  • My story: Hi Sir Monty here. I was knighted by my foster dad for being so well mannered. I have been with my second foster family for a couple of months now and really love their friendly kitties. I love to play with them and chase mini tennis balls. I also love to climb the kitty towers and I really love the catio that has so many birds to watch. I don't feel so scared that I need to hide anymore, but sometimes I do like to just relax by myself. While I do not like to be picked up or to lay on laps, I do love the pets. Noises and sudden movements still startle me. A perfect home will allow me to be me and have a super friendly kitty for me to pal around with. I love to watch the resident kitties and do everything they do. Monty came from a feral colony found in swampy area by one of our St. Francis adopters. They worked very hard to bring Monty and his sister Zuma to safety. He's known very few humans and was rescued as an older kitten so he's learning to trust humans.

Twiggy is begging for a home with love and attention. She likes to look outside and explore the house. She would do well in any home with people who love and commit to their kitties as she has been let down already. Twiggy is so loving and ready for a forever family to love. Date of Birth: 12/02/2015
Sex: Female
Color: Brown Tiger/Tabby
Breed: Bengal Mix
Fur: Short
  • My story: Princess Itsy-Bitsy really is royalty. She'd prefer not to talk about her ordeal at the county shelter where she ended up on some list & almost lost her life. Before ending up with St. Francis, Princess didn't have very good hoomans. They didn't know how to treat a Princess like herself. We think she has some Bengal in her family tree somewhere- based on her physique & her high energy. This girl can play! She loves a good wand toy! Princess came to us from the shelter very sick & frozen in fear. Now that she has kitty friends at her foster home, she is able to relax- and best of all- has decided her foster mommy is nice & people aren't so bad! She loves, loves, loves to be worshipped. If her foster mommy gets distracted & starts loving on someone else- Princess is quick to remind her that SHE is the center of the universe. She loves her pets- but does get startled easy. Princess will need to be in a quiet home with patient hoomans willing to give her the time she needs to settle in.

Declawed: Front

  • My story: Hi hoomans! My name is Noel, and although my story starts sad, I want everyone to know what a HAPPY girl i am and have remained through my whole ordeal. My owners brought me to the county shelter a week before Christmas. They said they were allergic to me. That part was sad because I loved them. But what was even sadder was I spent 2 whole months living in a cage at the shelter wondering if my family was coming back for me, or if anybody would give me a new home. I have been told I am beautiful, and I have been told I have an adorable little chirp. But still i sat there in a cage, week after week. Then I heard someone say something about me being on a list. They were frowning when they said it, so I knew it wasn't a good list. But my luck finally changed when a nice lady with St. Francis saw my picture and just knew she had to come save me! I am doing my kitty happy dance right now just to be out of that cage! My foster mommy says I am one sweet and special girl, and whoever adopts me

Sex: Male
Color: Orange Tiger/Tabby
Breed: Domestic Short Hair

  • My story: Hi, I'm Peyton! My brother and I were saved from the scary county shelter when we were 3 months old. We were so scared there, and rightly so since they had us on the list for being scared! (who wouldn't be scared there??). Our foster mommy saw us and just knew we had to be saved, so we went to live with her for a while to learn all about the good life, indoors with lots of yummy food and other furry friends. We loved it! My brother learned to trust very quickly so he got adopted right away. I have taken my time, but have really blossomed and am now a friendly boy! I love hanging out with my foster brothers and sisters ( dogs and a cat!) I really enjoy being part of a pack and would love living in a home with other animals. I also like to be around my foster Mom and to follow her around especially when it's time to eat! After hanging here for a while I think I'm finally ready to find my forever home! Sex: Female
Color: White & Black
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Hi friends!! My name is Tree! Are you looking for a crazy kitty? Look no further! My foster mom says I'm an eternal kitten. I am very active and silly. My absolute favorite snack is feet. Whose feet? Your feet! I love hiding in corners and chasing your feet when you walk past me. I paw at them and pull all sorts of kitty ninja moves. Who knew feet could drive a kitty crazy?? Yup, I'm a nut. If you're looking for a boring kitty who will nap all day, I'm not the kitty for you. If you like a little sass in your kitty and you have feet, email my foster mom! When I'm done abusing your toes and running in circles, I will snuggle you. I'm all about a balanced relationship! Here's the thing, I must remain Kitty Supreme. I love humans, but cannot be in a house with another cat. You won't need anyone else anyway. I have at least 5 personalities and you'll only clean ONE litter box. It's a win-win situation! Contact my foster mom to learn more about me, including how I got my name! XO Tree

Now its my turn for a forever home and family. I am beautiful and purrfect. My little clone Boppity and I are the best of friends. Our foster mom says Boppity and I are like one kitten/cat. We have a special language we speak to one another and adventure around the house together as well as nap together. We have been in foster care for for over a year now, please pick us! ChooChoo

Sex: Male
Color: Orange Tiger/Tabby & White
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Hi, my name is Choo Choo and boy am I one lucky fella! I thought I had my forever home, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I was returned to our animal services 2 times. And this last time I was placed on "The List", which I hear is not a good place for kitties to be. Boy did I need an angel, and an angel did come for me in the form of St Francis Society Animal Rescue, and it was just in the knick of time. Today, I am very happy to be safe, getting the much needed love and attention I need. My foster Mom just doesn't understand how someone could surrender a handsome fella like myself. I'm a little shy, but warm up to a gentle touch very quickly. People just need to understand what I've been through, and take it slow with me. Given the right environment, I will surely blossom. So going to a home where things are quieter and the Hoomans are patient would be just what I need. Oh, and did I mention, I'm a BIG BOY, coming in at almost 18 lbs. Contact my guardian angel to learn more!

Sex: Female
Color: Gray Tiger/Tabby & White
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • My story: My name is Alice and I am about 2 years old. I lived on the streets in Sulfer Springs most of my life. I was severely injured and my tail was all but severed. I dragged it around for a long time until I was rescued by St Francis Animal Rescue. I have tolerated the pain of an injured tail because my focus was trying not to starve to death. I was taken in by my foster who gave me the first good meal I have had in a very long time. I was then taken to the vet where they had to amputate my horribly injured tail. I am so grateful to St Francis for giving me the antibiotics and pain medicine I need to get better. I feel I have a second chance for a happy life. I would be happiest as an only cat, and please- no small children. I like things quiet and calm. I like to be petted and scratched but I'm not a lap kitty. Somebody hurt me in the past, so sometimes I get scared.

I also get along well with other kitties, and we have great fun! So, if you are looking for a very special girl to give you a lifetime of love and excitement, I could be exactly your girl. She also loves to hang out by the window watching the world go by and sleep on the foot of the bed. Misty is just waiting for her forever home and a family to make her own.` She will do best in a house with another cat so all the focus is not on her.

Sex: Female
Color: White
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Hello Everyone, My name is Jelly and I am purrfect. I got my name because I am very jealous whenever my foster mommy pets other cats. I want all the attention for me! My foster mommy found me, when she moved into a new apartment. I would meow at her and follow her home, so she started feeding me and my other buddies. Not long after that she noticed my bulging belly - I was pregnant! She took me inside her apartment so I could give birth to my babies in safe and peaceful place. Unfortunately, I got miscarriage... While my foster mommy rushed me to the hospital - I gave birth to the rest of the litter in her car. No one survived. We both were devastated.. But now, I overcame my past and I am ready for a new life out of the streets! Honestly - I am most loving cat you would ever see. I just LOVE to purr and be pet and for that I will reward you with a my kitty kisses! I am calm, couch potato type of friend - we can both watch TV, read books or just chill together.

  • My story: Aren't I a beautiful girl? I am a 'retired mama'. I have been with St. Francis for 2 years! My babies got adopted right away, but I am still waiting for my forever home. And I'm such a good girl! It's hard, because I'm shy & I don't show well at adoptions. But at home, I am a different girl! I'm frisky & silly! And I love my cuddles! My foster mommy says that sometimes retired mama's get overlooked-especially if they're shy. I've been waiting for so long for my humans. I really love my foster family- but sometimes the other kitties make me nervous. I will do best in a quiet home where I can be the center of the universe. I'm purrrfect, I promise! You'll see!

  • My story: My name is Hamlet. I am a very very lucky kitty. My mom was a stray and a nice lady found us when I was just a tiny baby. She made sure to hold us and give us lots of healthy food. Because it is best to keep kittens with their mom I am a little shy with humans. I love to be held and will collapse in your hands when you rub the back of my neck, my belly or my ears. I may just hide and run a bit more until I get really used to my new family. My foster mom can give you tricks on how to make me conformable in my new home. I love other cats and kittens and can even tolerate the big dog I live with. My foster mom can always count on finding me in my favorite window seat where I can soak up a few sunbeams. If another cat is there that is fine, I will just snuggle up next to him and soak up the warmth. Just look at my gorgeous s black shiny coat and cute white smudge. From Foster mom: Hamlet is a sweet boy who just needs someone patient and special. He has come so far!!!

I am a little shy at first, and have a wound on my tail that is healing, now that I am receiving good care and inside where I belong. I am very sweet and loving, I just need to get use to you first. Since I am so shy, I may do best in a home with older children. I like my little foster brother. A home with another sweet cat would be fine. Sex: Female
Color: Gray Tiger/Tabby
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Fur: Medium
  • My story: Hi, my name is Gemma and I was a stray that St Francis caught. I was living behind the home of a nice couple, however, since I was so sweet they thought I would be better as someone's pet. I have to say I agree. I was pretty underweight so it took me a little while to recover from being spayed, but I have put on some weight and enjoy my regular meals. I have never lived in a house before, but I am liking it. It is comfortable, however, I am still a little timid of the other animals I live with and all the different noises, but none of that matters when I am being pet. My foster mom says I am a purr machine, whatever that is. I would really like a home of my own and would probably be better in a calm home where I can just get to know everyone slowly and cuddle with my very own person.

Colonel Leggett
Date of Birth: 08/01/2017
Sex: Male
Color: Black
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Colonel Leggett, known by his squadron as “Leg,” is a retired, combat wounded feline who served months in the trenches of Seminole Heights, fighting Florida’s extreme elements. After receiving a battle wound that led to an infection in his hind leg, a foster family rescued him from the trenches and brought him in for convalescing. Revived, though still living with an adorable limp, Leg loves to stretch out while taking long cat-naps followed by intense sessions with crinkled paper. Before he repeats this daily cycle, he loves to be cradled in your arms. Leg is about a year old, with a beautiful singing voice and gorgeous green eyes, and within his soft black fur (right underneath his chin), he has a natural, white cravat, that perfectly shows off his medals of honor. Leg is comfortable around other cats and enjoys chasing and roughhousing. He also had an excellent play session with an excited four-year-old kid. Leg is looking to retire with a forever family, and he hopes that it's you!

Here is my story in my 1.5 years of life: I was pulled from a scary shelter by my first foster mom who had very good intentions, but unfortunately this kind lady was in a messy divorce due to domestic violence and it was not a good situation. I then went to another foster and that person was really nice but she lost her home and 4 of her cats- but the good folks at St Francis made sure we did not have to go back to the shelter. I'm on my third foster mom in a year now, and everyone of the 4 kitties from the last house were placed except for me. I know better days are ahead for me!!! I just know someone kind will turn my life around. Are you that person who will give me my forever home? Love, Lexi

She would like to have a home of her own where she no longer has to eat out of the dumpster or fight with the other cats for food. Ok with other cats or an only cat. Well behaved. A little scared, but I think a calm person could gain her trust in no time. She gets along with cats, but is more of a people cat.

  • My story: My foster mom was trapping at a mobile home park in Seffner and ran my brother and I through ACT's TNVR program. I was brought home to recover. The next morning, I did my best and purred the loudest I could to get her attention and tell her I was not a feral kitten! I'm a nice kitten that makes biscuits, and plays with other kittens, and please please do not return me to the mobile home park. It worked because I am in my foster home playing with other kitties and having the best timeuntil I have a home of my very own!

UPDATE, Figaro and Oliver were adopted as kittens, but now the dog in thier adoptive home is causing issues for the cats so we are trying to find a new home where they can stay together. Oliver isn't as adventurous but he is protective. The two love cuddling at different times but are equal. They would be a good match with a couple or a small family with one or two kids. They are pretty tolerant of young children and their antics. They are both healthy eaters. They have all of their shots and weigh from 10-12lbs.

Fitzwilliam
Date of Birth: 12/20/2017
Sex: Male
Color: White & Black
Breed: Domestic Long Hair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Bad hair, don't care! Fitzwilliam and his brother Sven were last minute shelter saves. Five weeks old at most and very hissy and irritated about having been caught and taken from their mommy. Now Fitzwilliam loves attention and snuggles but is still shy when approached. He gives all the love in the world when it is time for a nap or bedtime. Reminds his foster mommy of a busy toddler who has no time for attention until they are sleepy. His hair is ridiculous! His ear fluff is on point, chest piece is filling in, and the rest of him is all fuzzy. Plus he has a dashing moustache. Fitzwilliam will need to be in a home with another playful kitten as well as a patient human to continue teaching him about trust and love! He adored his foster sister Pickles!

Sex: Female
Color: Gray Tiger/Tabby & White
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Hi, My name is Sammy. My foster mom found me in her own neighbor desperately panning for food. I would walk up to anyone! There was a little girl who threw me some people food every once and awhile, but it was not enough. Then one day my foster came by and saw me sitting in a tree and decided came back and give me a can of cat food! OMG! I thought I had died and gone to haven. Then one day I followed her home and she took me in. At first I was a little nervous in the house, but soon realized this was the only place I wanted to be. Instead of being out in the cold at night, I get to cuddle in bed with my foster mom. My foster mom thinks I'm so easy to love that she wishes she could keep me but she can't because she already has rescued a dog that is not cat friendly. So, I am looking for a forever home with someone that loves to cuddle. One of my favorite things I like to do every night is to curl up next to my foster mom (in her bed) and fall asleep.

Sex: Male
Color: Brown Tiger/Tabby & White
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Hi there! My name is Luke. When I was just a tiny kitten, I was found along with my siblings, on a scary street in Tampa. Thank goodness I was now in the hands of the wonderful people at St. Francis! I was adopted 2 ½ years ago by a wonderful man and woman, whom I now call Mommy & Daddy. It took a few weeks to bond with my new sister Leia. My sister is a 5 year old tortoise and I’d heard they can have an attitude, but we eventually came to like each other! Since Leia and I have aged a bit and I am out of my cute kitten stage, we don’t get along anymore. My mommy thinks I would thrive in a loving home where I could be the king of the household as the only cat. I have never had the chance to meet a puppy dog, so I don’t know if I would like them! I love to play with my toys, love belly rubs and my scratching post. I even let my mommy brush me and clip my nails!! I have a leash, rabies tag and Hillsborough County tag. I have been seen twice a year at my vets office for wellness checkup

We were so happy when the folks at St. Francis found us and brought us all into a warm, loving, home - this sure is a different life than we had, and so much better. We are ready to find you and be your most handsome furballs, are you ready for us?

Sable

Sex: Female
Color: Black
Breed: American Mediumhair
Fur: Medium
  • My story: Hi everyone! My name is Sable. My fur is super smooth, and I have a beautiful, fluffy tail. I was captured with my sister Foxy, who is even more fluffy! I am cautious around people, but I am usually trying to trip my foster while she prepares food, by rubbing figure 8's around her legs. I love to have my neck and chin rubbed, and my favorite activity is chasing treats! I will prefer a quiet environment, and I get along great with other cats. I look forward to meeting you!

Adeline
Date of Birth: 06/28/2017
Sex: Female
Color: Black & White
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Hi! I'm Adeline. However, if you ask my foster mom, my name is Sweet Adeline. I am quite shy around new people and on Adoption Days I get a little scared. But when I am at home with my foster family I am quite the love bug. We just got a litter of kittens a few weeks ago and I spend a lot of time grooming them and making sure that they are happy. Sometimes they share some of their wet food meal with me. I love taking naps on my foster mom's bed. She gives the best scratches in all the right places. It is heaven. But I am ready for my forever home. I do very well with other cats and older children. Little children make me nervous and I tend to hide from them. Will you open your heart and your home to me? I will be your friend forever and you can tell me about your day while you give me those wonderful scratches behind the ear.and above my tail. Those are the best spots. I would love to be your new fur baby..

Itsy Bitsy
Date of Birth: 05/24/2015
Sex: Male
Color: Gray
Breed: American Shorthair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Itsy Bitsy was part of a lively litter of 5 kittens dropped off with his mom on "Spay Day", a volunteer community effort to decrease breeding among free roaming cat populations. He was the smallest (hence Itsy bitsy) and hardest hit by an upper respiratory infection affecting the entire litter & as a consequence, he was left with a "weepy" eye & ongoing runny nose which appear to be allergies. In spite of his mild health issues, he has turned into a delightful charmer that lives to play (especially with other kitties!) and cuddle. If you take care of him he will happily return the favor!

  • My story: A nice lady came into Petsmart and ask for help after finding my siblings and I in her backyard. A volunteer went to her house to get us, she was afraid of us. Silly lady, we were just little bits. We have grown and grown and are now ready for our forever home. Can we come play at your house. I will need an understanding person since I am shy. People weren't always nice to me. Someone tipped my ear when I was a baby. I am great once I know you won't hurt me.

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Fur: Short
  • My story: Hi my name is Fabulous, and I can only think that I was given that name because I am absolutely F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! I was surrendered to our local animal services, and when no one came for me I was placed on "The List", which is not a good place to be. I was so scared at the shelter! Well don't you know that St Francis saw me and knew right away that I needed to be given a chance, a chance to find my one special FOREVER. My foster Momma says that I am such a beautiful girl, that loves chin scratches! I'll head bonk you, and purr, purr, purr! I would love to find a quiet home with a Hooman to call my very own. Are you looking for FABULOUS? If you are, please contact my foster Momma to learn more about me.
