Hans was a true St. Francis success story. Hans came into Susan’s life in 2002 while she was doing some volunteer work for St. Francis. She took one look at his cute little face and knew she had to bring him home. Hans was given 5 wonderful years with Susan. Before Susan adopted him Hans had had a rough life. With a timid and fearful temperament and only 3 legs he had little chance of being adopted. But Susan saw the happy, loving dog he was inside and in her care his true personality emerged.
He was 7 when she adopted him and he immediately became her baby. There are many things that will be fondly remembered about him. Hans was always happy…especially to see Susan. He would always greet her at the door and for her his tail would not do its normal happy wag, but an excited circle wag instead. He loved to swim and carry his “dollies” around the house in his mouth. He was always ready for a tasty treat whenever somebody would drop food. He loved the days when they would go visit “Grandma Food” (Susan’s mother). The thing most people will remember is that it always seems as if Hans was smiling. And the thing Susan will most fondly remember is how much Hans loved cuddling with her and how he would let out a contented sigh when he laid down next to her at night.
On September 10, Hans succumbed to congestive heart failure. He was 12 years old.
