Peaches
  • Peaches is a sweet, loveable 2.5 year old Female Bulldog Mix rescued from a shelter, who has recently has become one of our pets in need. Her foster parents noticed she wasn't her usual playful self, so they took her to their vet, and she spent 5 days in intensive care. The vet said her red blood cells are being attacked! She still has a fighting chance, and Peaches is a fighter. More to follow on Peaches progress.

    Update on Peaches' progress:

    July 24, 2007
Well, as mentioned before. It is always something with this girl. She developed Mange the same time we were about to have her limp treated. Luckily, the Mange was fairly easily treatable – just takes several weeks and she had her last dip on Monday 7/23. She looks great and has bulked up to a 60lb girl! She likes her kibbles. She was under 50 for a while if you can imagine. A specialist looked at her legs/hips. She is determined to have severe knee issues and hip dysplasia. We will have left knee surgery to correct her patellae (knee cap) which has severely moved out of place. The Doc thinks she will have much more spunk after she recovers and this will give her more quality of life in her later years. We may opt to do her right knee too but we will wait to see how she recovers. She will need a lot of rehab and time to recover completely including several weeks where she can’t put wait on her knee.

Due to Peaches’ extensive medical issues since March 2007, St. Francis and the foster parents are not re-homing her. She is happy in her new pack and very much a part of the family. She is loved by all her come in contact with her. She is quite the “Daddy’s girl” now too and enjoys going to work with him and greeting the visitors.

Well Peaches had the last blood work up done and it came back great!! She has gained about 3 lbs and looks super. Now that she feels better, her adorable personality is coming out! She loves to wrestle with the pug mixes in her home and is learning about toys too - yes, Peaches had NO clue what toys were but is now fond of a stuffed squirrel. All is not perfect however. She has developed a strong limp. So, we are monitoring that issue and will have a vet examine her leg. Poor girl, seems to always be something. She is a wonderfully sweet animal and having a great time in her foster home!

She is doing well. Still very lethargic but moving around. She is a hungry Hippo so that is a good sign. She has lost weight and it quite thin. Her blood work when she left the vets on Friday was encouraging. She will be retested mid of this week to see if we have further improvement. From there, we may be able to conclude on if this is an isolated event triggered by something or a more chronic disease. Until then, we are just so happy to have her home. She is eating well and getting rest.

If you can help with the medical expenses for Peaches, she, her foster parents and St. Francis would be grateful . Hospitals stays and blood work are costly.
