Board President
Amy Brennan was elected as St. Francis Society’s President in 2010. Prior to serving as President, Amy served on St. Francis Society’s advisory board and as Vice President for 2010. Amy has been volunteering with St. Francis since 2008. Amy was born and raised in Tampa, where she grew up with a houseful of cats and dogs. Amy attended college at the University of Florida, graduating in 2000 with honors with a degree in English/Advanced Writing. Amy then moved to Columbus, Ohio where she attended Capital University Law School, graduating with her law degree in 2003 with a certification in environmental law. In 2003, she moved to Tallahassee, Florida to take a job with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. While in Tallahassee, Amy volunteered with the Tallahassee-Leon County Animal Service Center, the municipal shelter serving her area. She also volunteered with TREATS Inc., a local non-profit set up to benefit the municipal shelter. Amy returned to Tampa in 2006, where she currently works as an environmental attorney. After returning to Tampa, Amy spent quite a while searching for a local animal rescue group with which to volunteer. She was recommended to St. Francis Society by a close friend. Amy began volunteering with St. Francis Society in 2008 as a kenneler and for special events. She quickly realized that St. Francis Society was her home. Amy has a profound love for animals, and has from the moment she was born. She has been rescuing all sorts of animals ever since she was able and most of her family and friends have at least one pet due to Amy’s rescue work. Amy has rescued cats, dogs, turtles, squirrels, birds, lizards, and even a snake or two. While she was always somehow involved in animal rescue, Amy recently learned that it was her life’s calling. While going through Amy’s old schoolwork, her mother found a three-page essay she composed in her diary at age 7 about the benefits of rescuing a shelter pet. Amy shares her home with eight cats, one dog (a St. Francis Society alumnus), two fish and a husband – all of whom are rescues.
